Fonterra is to be applauded for its latest excellent initiative in opening-up dairy farms to the public, says FGC.
On Sunday 10 December, farmers in most dairying districts will open their gates to give hopefully thousands of people the chance to see first-hand the work being done to improve waterways and also where their milk comes from.
Fonterra says it could be one of New Zealand’s biggest ever community open days.
Katherine Rich says the initiative will give lots of people who have never been on a dairy farm the chance to see what they’re all about and show that farmers have and are putting in a huge amount of work to fix their waterways.
“Farmers do care a lot about their environment and they’re keen to share their stories with the community, and Open Gates day will enable them to do that.”
