Grocery Supply Code Webinar
Wednesday 28 June
11.00am – 12.00pm
The New Zealand Food and Grocery Council, Matthews Law and NextGen Group will host a free webinar for members on the draft Grocery Supply Code that is currently being consulted on by the Ministry of Business, Employment and Innovation.
What is the Grocery Supply Code of Conduct?
The Commission identified in its final report that there is an imbalance in negotiating power between the major grocery retailers and their suppliers.
The Grocery Code of Conduct is intended to address the effects of this imbalance by constraining the ability of the major retailers to push costs and risks onto suppliers and by improving the transparency of the trading relationship.
The Grocery Supply Code of Conduct prescribes minimum conduct which major grocery retailers must adhere to when dealing with their suppliers. The major retailers will be required to comply with the Code once it is created.
What is this consultation seeking feedback on?
This consultation reflects information on the decisions that the Government has made to date and will allow stakeholders to provide input on the detailed requirements before final decisions are made.
What will the webinar cover?
NZFGC is developing its submission on behalf of members with advice from Matthews Law and NextGen Group. This webinar will offer members the opportunity to hear an overview of the draft Code and comments from Andy Matthews of Matthews Law about legal aspects of the Code. Mike Rudman from NextGen Group will comment on how the draft Code compares to the Australian Code and how the Australian Code has worked in practice. Members will be able to ask questions at the webinar.
How can I have input?
If members wish to share their views regarding the draft Code so that these can be incorporated into the development of the NZFGC submission now or following the webinar they can email or phone me.
